Definition
Habit is a sort of behavior that we repeat. It is done on a regular basis where time intervals can be minutes, hours or days. Once we adopt any habit we start doing it knowingly or unknowingly. It becomes a part of our routine and life. It is something which is repeated .It becomes a practice and can lead in a good life style or a bad one. Habits can be good or bad and some of its form are physical, positive, negative, emotional and cultural.
Classification
Habits are mainly classified into two parts, good habits and bad habits. Any of the habit can be formed and adapted by the thought process, the environment, the people around us and the results we assume from it. Sometimes we adopt them naturally and sometimes it is adapted by seeing the habits of others and by getting inspired from others. They get stronger with time and take an automatic mode.
Good vs Bad habits
Good Habits are tough to adopt as they have no room for pleasures, Initially, they may give you pain and the brain would stop you from adapting them but in the long run they become very helpful in our growth and achieving goals. Whereas, bad habits are easier to adapt as they come easily. They tempt us and as a result we quickly adapt them and make them a part of our life. But they are harmful in the long run and sometimes ruin people.
How to adopt good habits and break away from bad ones
Different people use different way of adopting good habits but the basic remains the same, self-determination and self-control. It is we who decide what is good for us and why it is good. We have to make it from imperfection to perfection. It may take time but eventually it works out with self-determination and self-control. If possible, we should also try to engage others while developing and adopting good habits as we become the source of inspiration for each other. We can also set goals and be determined to achieve them. In this way we know that only good habits can help us in doing this.
We shouldn’t be tempted with pleasures as temptation is one of the major cause in getting into bad habits. If we want to breakaway from bad habits we have to train our brains and training the brain means tough practice which can only come from self-control. Reading good books, being with good people and meditation are some of the ways by which we can easily breakaway from bad habits. Overloading ourselves with lots of promises also a reason of getting into bad habits. When we are not able to fulfill the promises we feel tiring and depressed and move toward the bad habits. S, choosing one good habit at a time makes it much easier to nail it and stay away from bad habits.
So, next time when you are tempted by a bad habit or want to adopt any then do remember it is not only going to affect the present but also the future. Not only ours but the people whom we love and the people who loves us. Let’s be responsible, loving and caring. Develop good habits for your loving ones.
